ICMM is an international organisation dedicated to a safe, fair and sustainable mining and metals industry. Bringing together 26 mining and metals companies and 35 regional and commodities associations the aim is to strengthen environmental and social performance. ICMM serves as a catalyst for change, enhancing mining’s contribution to society.
ICMM has prepared a set of 10 principles, eight supporting position statements, and transparent and accountable reporting practices.
Established in May 2003 the principles respond to the key challenges identified by the Mining, Minerals and Sustainable Development (MMSD) Project’s agenda for change. In parallel ICMM has developed a series of position statements to augment the ICMM 10 Principles for sustainable development.
Annamite is committed to endorsing and implementing all ICMM 10 Principles. These serve as a best-practice framework for sustainable development in the mining and metals industry. We will report periodically on the company’s performance during our exploration activities.
Published in September 2019, the Responsible Gold Mining Principles (RGMPs) are a new framework that sets out clear expectations for consumers, investors and the downstream gold supply chain as to what constitutes responsible gold mining.
Working with the World Gold Council (WGC) members, the world’s leading gold mining companies, and in collaborating with key industry stakeholders, the council has set out the Principles that it believes address key environmental, social and governance issues for the gold mining sector.
Annamite strongly supports these Principles, and will employ this credible and widely recognised framework through which gold exploration and mining companies can provide confidence that their gold has been produced responsibly
The Responsible Gold Mining Principles are intended to recognise and consolidate existing standards and instruments under a single framework. Prior to the development of these, there was no single coherent framework that defined responsible gold mining.
Annamite commits to carrying out a self-assessment against the requirements of the Responsible Gold Mining Principles applicable for exploration activities before the end of CY 2020.
Annamite supports the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI), which was established to increase transparency over payments by companies from the mining industries to governments and government-linked entities, as well as transparency over revenues received by those host country governments.
Annamite supports human rights consistent with the United Nations Declarations on Human Rights and the Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights (VPSHR). Established in 2000, the VPSHR are a set of principles designed to guide companies in maintaining the safety and security of their operations within an operating framework that encourages respect for human rights.
